Diapers can cost over $500 dollars the first year. For one child. Period products for one person can cost nearly $200 a year.
SNAP and WIC benefits only cover nutritional needs, not diapers, wipes and period products, leaving many families struggling to figure out how to pay for these basic needs.
My husband and I felt very lucky that we never had to make a choice between buying more diapers or buying less food. We were always able to provide our children with clean diapers whenever they needed them. It was one less worry for our young family, knowing we could keep our children safe, dry, and healthy.
That's why I joined the Milwaukee Diaper Mission board four years ago. I want all families in Milwaukee to have a reliable source of diapers, wipes, and period products.
As Milwaukee's first diaper bank, MDM has had incredible impact in just 5 years. Over 3.4 MILLION diapers and 1.4 MILLION period products! IN JUST 5 YEARS!
That doesn't mean we don't need your help. It means we need your help now more than ever! We are only serving a fraction of the families in our city who are experiencing diaper and period product insecurity.
